Creative Group for People in Early Stages of Dementia and their Carers

A new weekly creative group to enrich and inspire people in the early stages of dementia and their carers.

We invite people living with dementia in the community and their companions to join us on Monday mornings for sociable sessions which include music, movement, and story.

“Dementia is one of the biggest challenges our society faces” (Care Services Minister Paul Burstow)

“Engaging in arts activity empowers people living with dementia, and enriches life for them and those around them” (Dr Natalie Ryan, Dementia Research Centre, University College London).

 Mondays, 10.30am – 12.00noon

Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, Bethesda St, Stoke, ST1 3DW

Free activity.

Please contact  Isla or Lynn on 01782 381366 for more information or to book a place.

As the creative part of the brain can remain undamaged for years, engaging in arts activity:

  • Gives life-enhancing new direction for people living at home with dementia, their family and carers.
  • Brings instant relief from stress and loneliness, elevating mood for as long as a week afterwards.
  • Maximises cognitive function.
  • Regains sense of self.
  • Re-energises through social interaction.
  • Aids communication with family and friends.

Arts activities (practised to successful effect in care settings) are not easily available in the vital early stages of the disease. This project aims to redress that gap in Stoke and North Staffordshire.

This project is funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation and delivered by New Vic Education with support from Douglas Macmillan, Potteries Museum and Art Gallery and Approach North Staffordshire.
