Are you a carer for an older person with a mental health issue?
Would you like to know more about how you can support them and yourself?
Do you or the person you care for live in Stoke-on-Trent?

If so this course is free to attend and can really help.

Course Format
There will be four half hour sessions with each course accommodating between 6 and 12 carers.

Each session will have a particular theme with a range of learning methods and styles used to accommodate the different individuals attending.  The sessions will be carried out in a non-judgemental and supporting environment.

The course will include:
An overview of older peoples mental health
An understanding of important early indicators and the effect on friends and family
The definition of Person Centred approaches to care
Knowing the individual, working with them not against them

These sessions include the provision of transport to and from an accessible venue, a sitting service for those carers that need it and light lunch time refreshments, with no cost to you.

The aims are to:
Gain a clear understanding of the issues of being a carer of an older person with dementia
Gain practical skills and knowledge that can be put into practice to support the individuals
Improve the health and well-being of the carer therefore safeguarding the person in their care to remain independant within their home environment
